Oaklands College is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Apprenticeship Trainer & Skills Coach Carpentry to support the professional development of apprentices across our carpentry programmes. This is a rewarding role where you’ll deliver high-quality training, coaching and assessment, ensuring apprentices gain the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to succeed in their careers.
You’ll play a key part in guiding learners through their apprenticeship journey, working closely with employers, and helping apprentices achieve their full potential.
Your Day-to-Day Impact
- Deliver engaging, industry-specific carpentry training through a mix of classroom, workplace, and online sessions.
- Coach and mentor apprentices, tailoring learning to their individual needs.
- Conduct regular progress reviews, ensuring learners stay on track to complete their apprenticeships.
- Provide constructive feedback and prepare learners for End Point Assessments.
- Build strong employer relationships, supporting effective workplace training and development.
- Embed core themes such as equality, diversity and sustainability into all learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and assess apprentices’ knowledge, skills and behaviours against apprenticeship standards.
- Maintain accurate assessment records and ensure compliance with ESFA funding rules.
- Provide pastoral and academic support, helping apprentices overcome barriers to learning.
- Ensure the quality of the apprenticeship programme meets Ofsted, awarding organisation and funding body requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the college’s apprenticeship and business development teams to promote and deliver high-quality training.

We’re looking for someone with a passion for carpentry and for supporting others to succeed. You’ll be a strong communicator, organised, and able to inspire learners with your expertise.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience in carpentry and delivering training, coaching or assessment.
- A teaching or assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and assessment requirements.
- Excellent organisational and IT skills, with experience of using e-portfolio systems.
- A supportive, learner-focused attitude with a commitment to high standards.
