Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery
Deliver high-quality teaching across programmes, interviewing, assessing and inducting learners; monitor progress, provide constructive feedback, and support curriculum design and review.
Ready to Pass on Your Craft and Shape the Future of Carpentry & Joinery?
In recognition of the specialist skills required, this position includes an annual market supplement of £3,000.
We are looking for an experienced Carpentry & Joinery professional to join our team as a Lecturer, delivering high-quality teaching and practical training across a range of programmes. This is more than a teaching role — it’s a chance to pass on your knowledge, uphold industry standards, and influence the future workforce.
You’ll plan and deliver engaging sessions that blend theory with hands-on workshop practice, demonstrating techniques safely and effectively while embedding the high standards the trade demands. You’ll guide learners from their first measurements to their final assessments, helping them develop both confidence and competence.
Alongside teaching, you’ll act as a personal tutor — supporting learners’ progress, encouraging resilience, and helping them overcome barriers so they can succeed in the industry.
Why This Role is Different
If you’re motivated by:
Pride in your trade and maintaining high professional standards
Passing on your knowledge to future craftspeople
Better work–life balance than site-based roles
Job security and pension benefits
Making a visible difference in learners’ lives
Working in a well-equipped workshop environment
Your Day-to-Day Impact
You will:
Deliver inspiring teaching across a range of programmes
Carry out learner interviews and initial assessments to set students up for success
Monitor progress and provide constructive, developmental feedback
Design and improve schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning resources
Lead internal verification and liaise with external quality bodies
Maintain high workshop safety standards and model professional behaviours
Support learners pastorally as a personal tutor
Represent the curriculum at open evenings and employer engagement events
Contribute to quality improvement and curriculum development
This is a role where your experience genuinely matters — your real-world knowledge gives learners credibility, deeper understanding and confidence.
Is This You?
You’re someone who:
Takes pride in high-quality craftsmanship
Understands both site carpentry and bench joinery
Wants to step away from the physical demands of site work while staying in the trade
Is passionate about developing others
Values safety, professionalism, and teamwork
Believes in fairness, inclusion, and safeguarding
You’ll hold a Level 3 (or higher) qualification in Carpentry & Joinery and a recognised teaching qualification.
