An exciting opportunity has arisen at Oaklands for an experienced ACL Lecturer in Pottery to provide engaging and high-quality teaching, inspiring students to develop their creative skills to produce good quality ceramic pieces.
We are looking for an experienced ACL Lecturer in Pottery to join our team and play a crucial role in delivering our popular pottery course offer to adult students, who are eager to learn and develop their skills from those who are at beginners’ level to those with more experience in the craft. In this position, you will provide constructive feedback and guidance to help learners progress and achieve their creative goals.
This role would be between 2-5 hours per week, evenings, term time only.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
• Plan and deliver creative pottery sessions for adult learners at varying levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced).
• Demonstrate a range of pottery techniques (including wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing).
• Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages creativity and social interaction.
• Adapt teaching to suit learners of different abilities and experience.
Collaboration
• Liaise with the pottery technician to ensure equipment, materials, and kiln schedules are prepared and maintained.
• Work closely with other pottery tutors to share best practice.
Health & Safety
• Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and materials in the studio.
• Comply with college health and safety policies and procedures.
Is This You?
Essential Skills & Experience
• Strong practical skills in pottery and ceramics.
• Experience teaching or leading workshops for adults.
• Ability to create a relaxed, enjoyable learning environment.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
Desirable
• Previous experience in community or leisure learning settings.
• Teaching qualification such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or willingness to work towards it).
Personal Attributes
• Friendly, approachable, and passionate about pottery.
• Ability to inspire creativity and confidence in learners.
