An exciting opportunity has arisen at Oaklands for a Curriculum Technician in Beauty and Make‑Up. The role involves overseeing salon operations and stock management while maintaining high standards of health, safety, and compliance. As a key front‑of‑house presence, the post‑holder will deliver excellent customer service and ensure a smooth, welcoming experience for all clients, students and teaching team.
Key Responsibilities
Salon Operations & Stock Management
Carry out full stock‑taking for all Beauty and Make‑Up resources.
Prepare and restock salons with consumables, PPE, tools, and equipment to ensure smooth delivery of practical sessions.
Manage iPlicit ordering processes for Beauty and Make‑Up supplies.
Source cost‑effective items to support:
Teaching, Learning & Assessment (TLA)
Student kits and uniform requirements for future academic year
Oversee laundry operations, ensuring:
Towels and materials meet hygiene standards
Laundry tasks are completed efficiently, either personally or by supervising students
Work within departmental budgets, ensuring all purchasing and activities remain cost‑effective and aligned with Teaching, Learning & Assessment (TLA) priorities.
Support curriculum teams by identifying value‑for‑money solutions for resources, consumables, kits, and learning activities.
Work collaboratively with curriculum staff to identify resource needs and recommend practical options that enhance the learner experience.
Front‑of‑House & Customer Service
Provide reception support during student‑led salon sessions.
Manage client flow, bookings, appointment confirmations, and overall customer experience.
Support students with re‑booking procedures and achieving retail targets.
Handle banking duties in line with college procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Complete mandatory Beauty and Make‑Up risk assessments and maintain or report any risk factors.
Act as a trained Hair and Beauty First Aider (in line with H&S requirements for increased coverage). (must hold or be willing to obtain qualification)
Promote and support safe working practices across all practical sessions.
Additional Duties
Drive the college minibus (must hold or be willing to obtain the required licence) to support off‑site activities, trips, and enrichment opportunities.
Working Hours & Flexibility Requirements
Working hours will vary in line with business needs, including client sessions, evening appointments, and part‑time course delivery.
The post holder must be flexible and able to adjust working patterns when required to support salon operations and curriculum activity.
Example working pattern (subject to change):
Monday: 11:00 – 17:00 (with late‑night cover required during parts of the academic year)
Wednesday: 9:00 – 13:30
Thursday: 9:00 – 17:00
Adjusted shifts may be required to support events, assessments, or peak client periods.
Is This You?
A background in either or both Beauty Therapy, Make‑Up Artistry, or a related professional field, with practical experience in salon or industry environments.
Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Beauty Therapy, Media Make‑Up, or equivalent).
Experience working in an educational, training, or customer‑facing setting.
The role includes completing First Aid certification and MiDAS minibus driver training to support student activities and off‑site provision.
You should be proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
Previous experience of the above is essential, along with a commitment to providing a high-quality students/staff stakeholder experience.
