Join our team as a Oaklands Electrician!
To provide a high-quality electrical maintenance and installation service across Oaklands College sites. The role ensures all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and fully operational to support teaching, staff, and student activities.
⭐ Core Responsibilities
Designated lead and point of contact for all PPM queries.
Prioritise PPM requirements and provide clear direction to the wider team.
Respond to helpdesk requests across the site with a proactive, professional and safety‑focused approach.
Contribute to allocated projects under the direction of the Facilities Manager.
⚡ Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
Diagnose faults and repair lighting, power distribution, emergency lighting, fire alarm interfaces and associated systems.
Ensure minimal disruption to college operations during breakdowns and repairs.
Install new electrical systems, wiring and equipment in line with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
Test, inspect and commission electrical installations, including PAT testing where required.
Complete and document operator maintenance on all equipment and report defects for escalation.
🛠️ Compliance & Safety
Maintain 100% adherence to statutory maintenance regimes (fire safety, legionella, gas where applicable, electrical safety).
Conduct regular audits of engineer certifications and subcontractor documentation to verify compliance.
Ensure all work complies with health and safety legislation and electrical standards.
Complete and report regular compliance checks (e.g., emergency lighting, fire equipment).
Maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections and certifications.
Assist with audits and statutory compliance checks.
👥 Team Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise and motivate PPM assistants, administrators or engineers, including performance reviews and recruitment.
Work collaboratively with the wider estates and facilities team.
Assist contractors on-site, ensuring safe working practices and adherence to specifications.
Support the wider team with resources required to deliver work projects.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, colleagues and end users.
🧰 General Estates Support
Support refurbishment and capital projects across campus buildings.
Assist with general maintenance tasks where required.
Ensure machinery and equipment are used safely, maintained correctly, kept clean and stored appropriately.
Monitor consumables and spares, arranging replenishment when needed.
Assist with internal and external event setups.
