Join Oaklands College as a Lecturer in Adult Provision (Functional Skills Maths) and help adult learners unlock their potential through engaging, flexible and high-quality maths education.
As part of our Adult and Community Learning provision, you will play a key role in supporting learners to gain essential maths skills that enhance their confidence, employability, and progression opportunities.
You will deliver Functional Skills Maths at Level 1 and Level 2 through online and distance learning, supporting learners throughout their journey—from enrolment through to achievement.
This role combines inspiring teaching, learner support, and strong use of digital platforms to ensure an engaging and inclusive experience for all learners.
Day to Day Impact
Teaching, Learning & Assessment
Plan and deliver engaging online Functional Skills Maths lessons via Microsoft Teams
Provide one-to-one and small group support to improve learner outcomes
Prepare learners for assessments and exams through targeted revision strategies
Develop high-quality digital learning resources and activities
Learner Recruitment & Support
Conduct enrolment interviews, inductions, and initial assessments
Provide Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to support learner progression
Create and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
Support learners with diverse needs, ensuring an inclusive learning environment
Progress, Retention & Achievement
Monitor learner attendance, engagement, and progress using BKSB and other systems
Set and review targets, implementing interventions where needed
Maintain regular communication with learners to support retention and success
Digital Learning & Innovation
Use digital platforms such as Microsoft Teams and BKSB effectively
Monitor learning data and use insights to improve learner outcomes
Support learners in developing digital skills for online learning
Quality, Compliance & Safeguarding
Maintain accurate learner records and meet funding/compliance requirements
Contribute to quality processes including SARs and QIPs
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times
Support learner wellbeing and refer concerns where appropriate
Is This You?
Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics or a related subject
Level 2 English and Maths
Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
Experience & Skills
Experience teaching Functional Skills Maths (Level 1 & 2)
Experience delivering online or distance learning
Strong digital skills, including Microsoft Teams and BKSB
Experience supporting adult learners from diverse backgrounds
Ability to track learner progress and implement effective interventions
Excellent communication and organisational skills
