We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of MIS to lead our Management Information Systems function across a large, multi-campus Further Education college.
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of accurate, compliant and insightful management information that supports strategic decision-making, maximises funding performance and drives continuous improvement across the organisation. Reporting to the Director of Information, you will combine strong operational leadership with technical expertise in MIS systems, FE funding, reporting and business intelligence.
As Head of MIS, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of Management Information Services, ensuring the College delivers high-quality, audit-ready data across all funding streams.
You will lead a team of specialist managers responsible for funding compliance, reporting and systems development while working closely with Curriculum, Finance, Quality and IT colleagues to support the College's strategic objectives.
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable discussing DfE funding rules and ILR submissions as they are developing reporting strategies, driving system improvements and presenting performance insights to senior leaders.
Day to Day Impact
Funding & Compliance
Lead the College's funding and compliance strategy across Apprenticeships, Adult Skills Fund, 16-19 provision, T Levels, Skills Bootcamps and other funding streams.
Ensure accurate and timely ILR submissions and DfE returns.
Maintain robust audit and data assurance processes.
Maximise funding performance through effective data management and compliance oversight.
Data, Reporting & Business Intelligence
Lead the development and delivery of high-quality management information, dashboards and performance reporting.
Oversee the College's reporting calendar and KPI framework.
Drive the development of Power BI dashboards and data visualisation solutions.
Ensure the highest standards of data quality, integrity and consistency.
Curriculum Planning & Timetabling
Provide MIS leadership for curriculum planning, modelling and timetabling activities.
Support curriculum growth and resource planning through data-driven decision making.
Work collaboratively with curriculum leaders to ensure effective course and timetable set-up.
Systems Development & Innovation
Lead the ongoing development of ProSolution and associated MIS platforms.
Drive process improvement, automation and system integration initiatives.
Ensure compliance with GDPR and data governance requirements.
Explore and implement innovative technologies that enhance service delivery.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing MIS team.
Build strong relationships across the College and act as the senior expert for management information and data services.
Represent MIS at senior meetings, strategic projects and organisational initiatives.
Promote a culture of data-driven decision making and continuous improvement.
Is This You?
We are looking for a strategic MIS professional who combines technical expertise with strong leadership capability and a passion for improving educational outcomes through effective use of data.
Significant experience leading MIS operations within a Further Education environment.
Extensive knowledge of FE funding methodologies, ILR requirements and DfE funding rules.
Strong understanding of student record systems such as ProSolution or equivalent MIS platforms.
Experience of managing compliance, reporting and data quality functions.
Excellent knowledge of SQL/T-SQL reporting and data management.
Experience overseeing Power BI dashboards and business intelligence solutions.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Exceptional analytical, organisational and communication abilities.
Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
Desirable
Experience within a multi-campus FE college.
Knowledge of 4cast or similar curriculum planning software.
Professional qualifications in data management, business intelligence, project management or related disciplines.
Awareness of emerging technologies including automation, predictive analytics and data warehousing.
