Lecturer in Performing Arts - Dance Specialist

Oaklands College is seeking an enthusiastic, industry-informed and student-centred Dance Teacher with a specialism in Musical Theatre to join our Creative Industries team at the Welwyn Garden City Campus.
The successful candidate will inspire and motivate learners across Further Education programmes, delivering high-quality dance and musical theatre training that prepares students for progression into higher education, drama schools and employment within the performing arts sector. The role will involve teaching a range of dance disciplines within a musical theatre context, supporting practical productions and performances, and contributing to the continued development of our performing arts curriculum.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and inclusive lessons in dance and musical theatre performance.
· Teach a range of dance styles relevant to musical theatre, including jazz, contemporary, commercial and choreographic practice.
· Deliver high-quality learning, assessment and feedback in line with college policies and awarding body requirements.
· Support students in developing technical, creative and performance skills.
· Choreograph and rehearse performances, showcases and productions throughout the academic year.
· Monitor student progress and attendance, identifying and implementing strategies to support achievement and retention.
· Contribute to curriculum planning, quality improvement activities and course development.
· Maintain accurate student records and complete administrative duties in a timely manner.
· Promote equality, diversity and inclusion within all teaching and learning activities.
· Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Creative Industries department to provide an outstanding student experience.
· Participate in course marketing activities, auditions, open events and enrolment processes as required.
· Maintain strong links with industry and ensure teaching reflects current professional practice.
· Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Dance, Musical Theatre, Performing Arts or a related discipline.
· Teaching qualification (PGCE, Certificate in Education or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
· GCSE English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
Essential Qualifications

Essential Experience
Experience of teaching or training young people aged 16–19 within Further Education, Sixth Form or equivalent settings.
Experience of teaching dance within a musical theatre context.
Experience of choreography and production rehearsal processes.
Experience of assessing learner performance and providing constructive feedback.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Strong practical expertise in dance techniques relevant to musical theatre.
Knowledge of current trends and progression routes within the performing arts industry.
Ability to motivate, inspire and engage learners with varying abilities and backgrounds.
Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Competence in the use of digital technologies to support teaching, learning and assessment.
Desirable
Professional industry experience in dance, musical theatre or performing arts.
Experience of delivering UAL, BTEC or equivalent vocational performing arts qualifications.
Experience of directing or supporting live theatre productions.
Membership of relevant professional bodies.
